Sunburns and Aloe, Why is Aloe a Miracle Plant?

Sunburns. We’ve all had them, and we’ve all probably been told to apply aloe vera to them to heal our skin. But why? How does aloe vera help our burnt skin? We are here to tell you the facts behind this miracle plant.

Power Healer

There are many elements of aloe that make it such a powerful healer. Its soothing, cooling, moisturizing, and anti-inflammatory properties of aloe are particularly helpful in relieving sunburns. The gel of the plant reduces inflammation in the skin that helps relieve the pain and redness caused by sunburns. At the same time, the aloe stimulates the production of collagen which further helps the healing process by improving skin firmness, dryness, and elasticity.

Aloe's Properties

Aloe also contains many substances that make it such a strong healer. The plant contains special sugars and amino acids that help retain moisture in your skin and soften hardened skin cells. Aloe vera also contains salicylic acid, which eases pain while preventing infection. Last but certainly not least, aloe contains various vitamins. It contains vitamins A, C, and E, among others, which are antioxidants that can help decrease sun damage.

Calm and Cool Effect

When using aloe vera to cure a sunburn it is best to get it directly from the plant. However, moisturizers or lotions with aloe are also acceptable, just make sure to get the highest percentage of aloe possible. Aloe vera should also be kept in the fridge to enhance its calming and cooling effects. Aloe can be applied multiple times per day, and should always be applied to the entire affected area for the quickest sunburn relief.
