Getting ready for a wedding can be a stressful and hectic task. With picking the perfect venue, creating just the right playlist, and finalizing the last details at the dress fitting, all while maintaining a bridal skincare routine is among a long list of responsibilities. Luckily we’re here to help!

We asked Boston-based bridal makeup artist, Garineh Ashjian of Glamour Cosmetics, for tips on the best wedding prep skincare and self care to help get you looking and feeling your best before the big day.

Tip 1: Hydration, Hydration, And More Hydration!

Drink lots of water and make sure you moisturize both in the morning and in the evening with a non-comedogenic moisturizer. Many people underestimate how important it is to hydrate your skin if you want your makeup to look its best.

Tip 2: Never Underestimate The #AloeGlow Routine!

Double cleansing is so important. Especially at night after a full day of grime on your skin! The first cleanse removes surface dirt and makeup, and the second really cleans out your pores. Use the pHPOWERBALANCE natural gel cleanser to wash away all the impurities and then pat your skin dry just enough so that it’s still slightly damp.

Follow with the 4XPOWERLIXIR hydrating serum as the first round of hydration with antioxidants and soothing echinacea. Your damp skin will help absorb the serum more deeply into your skin!

Then lock it all in with the 3DPOWERHYDRATOR. I LOVE this gel cream formula because it feels SO lightweight and yet has 7 types of hyaluronic acid that penetrates into my skin and hydrates for 72 hours, even if I wash my face! Can’t get better than that!

All components of a skincare routine are equally important and come hand in hand. You can’t keep lathering on moisturizer without first cleansing away the dirt of the day. You can’t keep cleansing without exfoliating because dead skin will start to build up. And you can’t keep exfoliating without moisturizing because you will dry out and irritate your skin.

Tip 3: Set Aside A Selfcare Morning Routine!

Wedding day mornings are so hectic and there is nothing more relaxing— to me anyway— than having a moment to yourself first thing in the morning to take care of yourself before the chaos begins. Start a self-care routine well before your wedding and then carry that on to the day of your wedding.

Your morning routine might look like this: wake, stretch, meditate for 10 minutes, take a moment in the bathroom alone to apply your skincare routine, and sip on some lemon water - followed by coffee of course!

Tip 4: Nourish Your Body From The Inside & Outside!

Eat healthy and organic foods, exercise even if it's just for 30 minutes a day, drink lots of water, sleep at least 8 hours a night and meditate 10 minutes a day! You will set yourself up for success that way!

Tip 5: Don’t stress!

Wedding days usually come with a minute to minute timeline, which can actually cause a lot of anxiety for a lot of brides. Try to enjoy every minute of your day from the moment you wake up to the moment you leave your reception, and let the pro's take care of everything - that's why you hired them!

Tip 6: Always Prep Your Skin For More Flawless Makeup Application!

I like to hydrate my client’s skin as much as I can! For my clients who are dry to normal, right now I am loving the Lineage Skin Cream and Makeup Serum. They really do well under foundation so that it doesn't cake up on dry skin. For my normal to oily clients, I still hydrate but use more lightweight prep, such as the Aloe Attiva 3DPOWERHYDRATOR. The gel-cream formula feels so lightweight but it does a great job of hydrating to prep for foundation. I don't usually use "primers" - skincare does the job for me!

Tip 7: Don’t Forget Aftercare!

A trick I use to remove my makeup is using the pHPOWERBALANCE Gel Cleanser on dry skin! The gel-like texture and vegan oils in the cleanser helps to melt off my makeup! It's SO satisfying! Then I wipe it all off with a warm cloth, and do a second cleanse with water and the pHPOWERBALANCE! It leaves my skin SO clean without feeling dry! Be sure you follow with your favorite moisturizer!

Tip 8: Put Yourself First!

It’s not selfish- it’s necessary. If you don’t take care of yourself, you won’t be able to take care of others in a healthy way. Show up for yourself—  take 10 minutes a day to meditate by listening to some mediation guides on Spotify (that’s what I do anyway), exercise even if it's just a brisk walk! What works best for me is having a simple morning routine in the morning. Wake up, make bed, get dressed, wash up, take the dog out, and go to the gym for an hour. By 9am I am back home and can get my day started on a positive note! It’s a simple routine to follow but it works well for me!

Tip 9: Keep Your Hair And Nails Strong & Healthy!

Oils are great for your cuticles and hair! I try to put pumpkin oil and castor oil on my hair at least once a week and sleep with it! It helps hydrate your scalp and grow your hair thicker and healthier! Biotin is also an essential vitamin for nail and hair health, but I would definitely talk to your doctor first before taking any supplements.

Tip 10: Be Consistent!

Start your skincare routine 6-12 months in advance of your wedding. Skin takes time to adjust to new products- don’t give up if you don’t see results right away. Be sure you go see an esthetician monthly for facials, and maintain your skin routine at home! And remember that fine lines, wrinkles, and texture are normal!
